What Is an At-Home Hepatitis Test?

At-home hepatitis testing uses a finger-prick blood spot sample you collect at home and mail to a CLIA-certified lab. The lab tests for hepatitis antibodies and posts results to your secure online account in approximately 5 days.

It’s important to note that myLAB Box panels include Hepatitis C specifically — not Hepatitis A or B. Hepatitis C is the most common chronic bloodborne infection in the United States and is often asymptomatic for years. The CDC recommends that all adults get tested for Hep C at least once.

If you need to test for Hepatitis A or B specifically, those are available as standalone tests or through a lab visit. If you test positive for Hepatitis C, a physician from the provider’s network will contact you to discuss results and next steps — Hepatitis C is curable with antiviral medication.

How At-Home Hepatitis Test Works

Four steps from order to results — no clinic required.

1

Order Your Kit

Choose a panel that includes Hepatitis C. Your kit ships in plain, unmarked packaging — nothing on the outside identifies the contents.

2

Use the included lancet to prick your fingertip and collect a few drops of blood on the dried blood spot card. Takes about 5 minutes.

3

Mail It Back

Drop your sample in the prepaid return envelope and leave it for your mail carrier or drop it at any USPS location.

4

Get Your Results

Results are posted to your secure account in approximately 5 days. You’ll get a notification when they’re ready.

How Accurate Is At-Home Hepatitis Test?

>97%
Sensitivity (Hep C antibody test)
Hepatitis C antibody tests have a sensitivity exceeding 97% after the window period. The test detects anti-HCV antibodies produced by your immune system in response to infection.
>99%
Specificity
False positives can occur in certain conditions. A reactive result may be confirmed with an HCV RNA test before a diagnosis is made.
